We Got Him!

Alan, you’re a genius! Thanks to his plan, we totally caught the Bad Hatter! And it was so simple! Here’s how we did it. We all waited around in Mr. Wits living room, talking about how we had a great plan to catch the Bad Hatter. This was just a trick to get him to show up, since we knew he couldn’t resist listening in on our conversation. We talked about how smart we all were and how dumb the Bad Hatter was. Mr. Wits even said we should celebrate by playing a cool new video game on his computer! We played for a bit, and I got the highest score by far. Alan said, “Wow, Erika, you’re awesome at this game! I bet you could even beat the Bad Hatter if he were a boss in this game!”

Suddenly, the room went black and that familiar evil laughter started again. “Have you learned nothing?” the voice said. “I, the Bad Hatter, can do anything I want! Nothing can stop me!”

I stood up and shouted back “Oh yeah? If you’re so tough, why don’t you go in the game and prove it? I KNOW I can beat you!”

The Bad Hatter gritted his teeth and hissed, “You’ll regret those words.” In a bright purple flash, he disappeared into the machine. Then Dana pulled the plug.

We did it! We trapped the Bad Hatter in some game he can never escape! Now we just have to figure out how we’ll get back home.

Mr. Wits

We found Mr. Wits today. That’s right, Mr. Wits. He’s not a captain or commander yet, so he insists we don’t call him by those titles. Anyway, we explained everything to him and he looked totally shocked. I guess I would be shocked too if a group of oddly dressed people claimed to have traveled back in time to nine years in the future only to be tricked by a living computer program and sent back further into the past.

Mr. Wits asked us a bunch of questions about the future, but Scout wouldn’t let us answer any of them. He kept pacing back and forth, mumbling something about time paradoxes. The good news is that he is willing to help in any way he can, despite how crazy we must sound. I know we’re in a bad position right now, but I can’t help but smile. For the first time in over a week I’ve got a warm place to sleep and a nice hot shower waiting for me!

Me and my Big Mouth

I tried to talk to Commander Omni about her past self, but it didn’t go the way I thought it would. She said she was glad her past self knew about Nils’ true nature. I never really thought about this before, but Commander Omni must’ve really felt betrayed when Nils turned to a life of crime. Without Commander Omni’s help, I knew I had to talk to Nils.

I found him in the cafeteria last night after everyone had gone to bed. It was really awkward sitting next to the future Master Hacker as he quietly ate his macaroni and cheese. I explained as best I could why Cadet Omni was so upset with him. He just kept saying that it wasn’t fair – that he isn’t a bad guy. Not yet anyway. I hope our talk helps him make better choices in the future. Who knows, we might find out that he’s a good guy again when we return to our own time.

Uh Oh

So, I was talking to Cadet Omni about what happens with the Academy in the future and…well…I kind of told her that Nils becomes the world’s greatest cyber villain. Now she’s treating him like he’s already turned evil. What if that makes him turn to cyber crime even earlier? What if he becomes the Master Hacker before the Academy is prepared to deal with him?

I’m going to talk with Commander Omni and try to get her to talk some sense into her past self. Or maybe I should just talk to Nils and, you know, convince him to not be evil.

Andrea?

1995. That’s, like, SOOOOO long ago. I’m talking 15 years. Yikes. I mean, it’s really cool to meet our teachers before they got all teacher-y, but there’s something bothering me. I know that Cadet Edward became Officer Marshall, Cadet Nils became the Master Hacker, and Captain Marbles still checks back in from time to time…but who is Andrea?

Isn’t it weird that I know about everyone else from the first graduating class but her? I’ll have to ask Commander Omni about her when we get back to our own time. Right now, finding out about Andrea is pretty low on my list of priorities.

Strawberry Rhubarb Everything!

My strawberries and rhubarb are both ripe and ready for baking! Nothing reminds me of home more than fresh strawberry-rhubarb pie. My grandmother made them ever summer and she’d always have a warm slice topped with vanilla ice cream for me whenever I’d visit. Yum! The flavor is hard to describe - it’s the perfect balance of tart and sweet. My mouth is watering!

After I harvest it, maybe Trey will help me bake a few. If Jax wants to help me pick it I’ll give her a few jars of strawberry-rhubarb jam to sell. People would be crazy not to buy it! I’ll tell you how we make out next month.

Cinco de Mayo

I just wanted to take a little time this month to send a message to all the soldiers, both overseas and at home. THANK YOU!!! I really appreciate everything you’ve done for our country. You’ve given so much to make this country safe, and it is because of men and women like you that I am able to enjoy all the wonderful things in my life. For all the soldiers abroad, I hope you come home soon safe and sound, and that you are welcomed and remembered as the heroes you are.

If anyone reading this wants to help our soldiers and veterans, please check out any of this list of great charities. Making a difference is not a one-way street. We can help them, too!
