Betty teaches you the importance of keeping your OFFLINE identity separate from your ONLINE identity
Betty
Cyber Defender & Clubhouse Supervisor
Betty learned the hard way about sharing too much information online when rumors she had spread through her online blog upset some of her friends. Since then she has made it her goal to educate everyone about what information is inappropriate or unsafe to share online to prevent others from getting hurt.
As a Cyber Defender, Betty focuses on the most important information you should never share online, your offline identity.

Did you hear?
I was in the Detention Center delivering some lunch to Officer Ward, when I overheard him talking to Ex-Commander Nils. It seems that Commander Omni has a dark secret in her past. I wanted to learn more, but Ward cut the conversation off when he saw me.
I'm going to have to do some digging around.

Personal Information: Combining small facts
Cyber criminals and weirdo strangers can be very sneaky and very patient if they are trying to find out your offline identity. They probably won't come right out and ask you for it. They'll slip it into the conversation, hoping that you won't notice. They remember everything you tell them, and they'll stick around for a long time to find out what they want to know. Even sharing little things like what kind of car your parents drive or what color your house is can help them figure out who and where you are.
That's why you have to always be on guard, Cyber Defenders! Even the littlest things that seem so harmless can be dangerous to share.

Safe Online Communication: Social Networking sites
A social networking site is a Web site that brings people together in a central location to talk, gossip, share ideas and interests, and make new friends. They often allow you to create a profile, upload a picture, and allow your network or group of "friends" to view your profile or contact you. Most of them are free, and some popular sites are MySpace, Club Penguin, Facebook, Orkut, Friendster, Quechup, Xanga, Flickr, and Live Journal.
Social networking sites are extremely risky because it's so easy to communicate with others and post information. The most common risks are weirdo strangers who want your personal information, cyber bullying, identity theft, and malware from file sharing. Whatever you post will be available for others in Cyberspace for a long time, even after you delete it. You may as well have put it on a billboard!
Most social networking sites don't allow anyone under 13 to create a profile, and it's for good reason! Dangerous cyber criminals like to prowl on social networking sites looking for kids to trick or bully. It's best to stay away from them. Stick to safe, reliable Web sites, and always check with a trusted adult before signing up for anything on the Web.

Useless
When M.C. Spammer attacked I didn't know what to do. I feel so useless. I was so scared! I should have been able to do more. Maybe Carlo wouldn't have gotten injured if I had just been able to help in the fight...

Inappropriate Relationships
Cadets should not date. After seeing the way Alan and Dana were acting at the Halloween Ball I wanted to go talk to them about their recent behaviors. They should be setting an example for the younger cadets. Omni stopped me before I could reach them. She told me to let them be. That sometimes love will strengthen a team.

Halloween Winners
I was very pleased by how well all of you performed during our little masquerade this Halloween. I asked several helpers to infiltrate the dance to try and get each of you to reveal something about your true identities. Every single one of you answered the questions marvelously! Dana even approached me with concerns about the people asking the questions. Her friend's experience has taught her well!
Everyone who participated in the Ball should report to Commander Omni for your reward!
