Butterflies

Did you know that Monarch butterflies migrate to Mexico for the winter and return north as far as Canada to lay their eggs? That's a lot of flying for a little butterfly!

Butterflies truly are fascinating creatures. I've been having a lot of fun researching at the library and surfing the Internet to find out more about them.

Scavenger Hunt

I sat down with Maya to pick a theme for the scavenger hunt this fall. She suggested butterflies, because it's like the new students are coming out of their pupas and becoming beautiful butterflies throughout the course of the school. I think it's a great idea! Very poetic.

Finding the Truth

Truth isn't always as obvious as we would like it to be. Sometimes you have to search for it. It's like a scavenger hunt, or the cryptogram I showed you earlier.

Sometimes you have to uncover the truth based on what you know. It can be tough, especially when somebody intentionally gives you misinformation, information that isn't really true but sounds like it should be. It is another activity I enjoy, searching for the real truth in a matter.

Summer Projects

I see Omni finally put the project lists up. I'm pretty excited for the chance to work with Maya on the orientation activity. It's going to be a scavenger hunt. It's always good for the students to learn how to look for things, no? With Maya's help I'm going to make this game really challenging. Stick around, I'll be dropping hints on how to solve it as summer progresses.

Simple Cryptography

DOBBQFKDR

That's a cryptogram, an example of some simple cryptography. To see what it says, just simply replace the letters with the ones that are three letters to the right in the alphabet (hint: D = G). Cryptography is the study of secret writing or codes and is something of a passion for me. It's a frequent game I used to play with my mom.

You'll be seeing more of these since I enjoy the challenge of creating these cryptograms and having people solve them.

Bonjour mes amis!

Finally my own blog space. I've been trying to use those free services on the net but they always end up putting in so many ads and popups it drives me nuts. I can't imagine what it is like for the people who visit.

My name is Alexi. I love languages. I love how words can hide the truth and how you can use those same words to find it again.
